Harvey Still Looking for First Win

Harvey’s baseball team dropped its fourth straight game Wednesday, losing 4-2 to Christian Heritage at home in Katonah.

Harvey’s lineup outhit the visitors, collecting seven hits, including four for extra bases, but the Cavaliers could only drive home two runs, one in the first on an RBI double by senior Jackson Roberts, and then one in the seventh on a triple from senior Marc Catanese of Cross River.

Coach Mike Rubenfeld said his team took a step forward offensively, but the defense was poor.

“Our guys were finally able to get the bats going, but the problem was on the defensive end,” said coach Rubenfeld. Harvey committed five errors which helped give the game to Christian Heritage.

Junior Theo Rattner of Waccabuc started for Harvey and went two and two-thirds innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits while striking out three and walking one. Freshman Pierce Steinberg took the loss in relief, allowing one unearned run, while walking three. Junior Andrew Scherl pitched the last two innings, allowing two runs, only one earned, on two hits while striking out three and walking two.

Coach Rubenfeld praised the job of the pitching staff. “Our pitchers did an excellent job, throwing strikes and pitching to contact, but they just didn’t get the backup that they deserved,” said the coach.

Jackson Roberts banged out two more hits to raise his season batting average to .600. John Colangelo and Austin Forman also collected two hits each.

Harvey, now 0-4 to start the year and 0-2 in the HVAL, will travel to Forman Saturday in a league game with hopes of avenging last Saturday’s one-run loss to the Lions last week.
