South Salem Weekend Happenings: Festival, Wolves, Carnival & MORE!

There is a LOT going on in and around South Salem this weekend. Spend the final days of summer at one of these fun events!


As summer comes to a close, we all want to spend as much time doing fun, outdoor activities with our friends and families as possible. These events in Ridgefield and South Salem are going on exclusively this weekend and are sure to impress! Keep reading to learn more about the festivals, carnivals, and free happenings this weekend right in and around town.


Ridgefield's Nutmeg Festival - Saturday, August 12th - Free

The 111th Nutmeg Festival will be hosted for one day only at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, which is located at 351 Main Street in Ridgefield, CT. The rain or shine event will feature games and entertainment, a food court and grill-out, baked goods, artwork, books, a silent auction, a raffle, & more. With activities for all age groups, this popular event is good for the whole family. The Nutmeg Festival will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Learn more here


Shakespeare on the Green at the Ridgefield Playhouse - Saturday, August 12th - Free (first come, first serve)

Love's Labour's Lost by William Shakespear will be held at 2:00 pm for one afternoon only. 

The King of Navarre and his lords have sworn off the pleasures of life to pursue their studies, but can their oaths hold up when a princess and her ladies come to town? Men and women test their own constitutions in this hilarious Shakespearean comedy that forces gentlemen in love to keep love – and food, and sleep – at arms’ length. - Ridgefield Playhouse

South Salem Carnival - Friday, August 11th & Saturday, August 12th - $25 (wristband per person)

The carnival, hosted by the South Salem Fire Department, will be running from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday, August 11th, and 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Saturday, August 12th. This features rides, games, food, a raffle drawing, and more! Stop by the carnival at the Fire Department (1190 Route 35) for lots of fun!


RidgeCon at the Ridgefield Library - Friday, August 11th & Saturday, August 12th - Free

The Pop Culture Celebration returns to Ridgefield Library for its 3rd year! This events celebrates different pop culture icons and fandoms with all ages activities and events. Costumes are encouraged (but not required), and attendees can enter the costume/cosplay contest as well. Sleeping with Wolves in South Salem - Friday, August 11th & Saturday, August 12th - $299 per 4-person tent

The Wolf Conservation Center hosts Sleeping with Wolves, an extremely popular 'nocturnal experience'. The event allows partakers camp out overnight with the 20+ wolves living at WCC! 

With all the howls, circling vultures, and nature's nighttime chatter, you'll feel like you're camping under the stars with wild wolves. We might not be Yellowstone, but we're pretty close! Pre-registration is required. Space is limited and dates sell out quickly! - WCC

The event starts at 6:00 pm and goes until 8:30 am the next day. Admission price includes a pizza party with Ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa, Nikai and Zephyr, a movie under the stars at Zephr, Nikai, and Alawa's enclosure, food, tents for all participants, and more. The 11th is currently full, but you can still register for the 12th here


Graham Day at Ridgefield Skate Park - Saturday, August 12th - Free

Enjoy free skating at the Graham Dickinson SPIRIT Skate Park at 60 Prospect Street. From 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm stop by this celebration, in honor of Graham, a Ridgefielder who pioneered the building of the park.
