RSO Opens Anniversary Season on a “High” Note

Anniversaries are a time of celebration- remembering the past and looking forward to a future full of promise.  If the remainder of the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra’s Golden Anniversary Season builds on the triumphs of the opening weeks, area music lovers are in for a year-long celebration of truly historic proportions!

The RSO opened the season on October 4th, 2014, with a concert featuring the music of Sibelius, Grieg, Mozart, and the World Premiere of a work by Edmund Cionek commissioned by the RSO in celebration of the orchestra’s 50th Anniversary.  Reviewer Courtenay Cauble noted the “impressive growth in expressive performance and professional quality (of the RSO)…. over the past fifty years.”  He went on to call the performance “…a memorable triumph.”  Truly, the “buzz” surrounding the concert was unmistakably excited and enthusiastic.  More than one concertgoer has stated that the RSO, under the baton of Maestro Jerry Steichen, sounded truly inspired on October 4th and are performing better than ever!

Concerts are the meeting of muse, musicians and audience, and perhaps the inspiration noted above is a result of the size of the October 4th crowd.  Attendance for the concert was significantly larger than last season’s opening performance, 17% larger!  And the “buzz” of excitement surrounding the concert has spurred already impressive growth in subscriptions- a 20% increase over last season!  Truly an auspicious start to what promises to be an incredible year of music!

What’s next for the RSO?  The orchestra performs its annual Holiday Concert on December 6th, 8:00 pm, at Ridgefield High School Auditorium.  And on November 12th join us at “Cocktails for Charity” at Sarah’s in Ridgefield, a fundraiser for the RSO, starting at 6:00 pm, with a $15 donation at the door.

And has this talk of “memorable triumphs” whetted your appetite for seeing the RSO “live?”  Subscriptions are still available, with new subscribers receiving a special, 25% off anniversary discount!  You can subscribe for remaining concerts for as low as $45/$40 seniors!  Subscriptions, as well as tickets for all performances, can be ordered online at the RSO website, www.ridgefieldsymphony.org, or by calling 203-438-3889.  Join us during the RSO’s 50th Anniversary Celebration!
