Westchester Table Tennis Events This Weekend

This weekend is the Westchester TTC's November Open.

As usual, there are 18 events -- something for every skill level -- with more than $5,000 in prizes. First prize in the open event on Sunday is $1,500. Cash is awarded in every event. The schedule appears below.

Special this month is the world's first Inclusion contest, in which clear plastic walls are positioned at the sides of the table. Players can play off the walls in addition to using the table. Here's a demonstration video. The Inclusion event costs $10 to enter. USATT membership is not required. Prizes are $100 for 1st, $50 for 2nd, and $10 each for 3rd/4th. Inclusion has been set up on one table at the WTTC through Saturday for anyone who'd like to practice.

Other special events are 14 & Under, 40 & Over, and Doubles Under-3000 (in which the two players' combined ratings must be under 3000).

If you don't have a USATT rating, come early so we can estimate one for you. We can also use your League Night rating, if you have that.

The registration form appears here. Registration may be done in advance through PayPal or in person at the door. We will be using the new plastic balls on Sunday and the classic celluloid balls on Saturday.

The cost for spectators is $5 on Saturday (free for WTTC members) or $10 on Sunday ($5 for WTTC members). Please pay at the door. There is no charge for family members of players or for people who help with the tournament.

Thanksgiving Hours   The club will be open all Thanksgiving weekend:

* Nov. 27-28 (Thu.-Fri.) -- 3:30 - 10:00 pm
* Nov. 29 (Sat.) -- 10:00 am - 10:00 pm
* Nov. 30 (Sun.) -- Noon - 10:00 pm

Because of the holiday, there will be no League Night next Thursday, and no training clinic on Saturday.

North American Tour   The 5-star Grand Final of the 2014 North American Tour, with more than $10,000 in prizes, will be held at the WTTC on Feb. 7-8, 2015. This will feature the top 16 eligible players from the Tour's 25 participating tournaments. The *average rating* of the top 16 players on the current leaderboard is 2680. The competition should be spectacular. The main room of our club will be set up with just two tables, surrounded by bleachers, for the benefit of both the players and spectators.

We do need helpers in hosting this event -- arranging transportation to and from the airports for out-of-town players, arranging for food, making hotel accommodations, preparing a printed program, and other things. If you're willing and able to assist, please let us know.

Meanwhile, hope to see you this weekend!
