With so many Thanksgiving plans dependent on traveling to friends or family near or far, I figured let's take a look at the forecasts and try and get to the bottom of what we can expect on Wednesday night and Thursday!
The National Weather Service says that we can expect a coastal storm in our area on Wednesday into Wednesday night. Their prediction is a combination of snow, rain and wind. They haven't determined the exact amounts but state that there is a low probability of 6 inches or more with this system.
Accuweather expects that travel via airplane will be impacted by the heavy rain, gusty wind and low clouds on Wednesday day and night. Accuweather believes it will turn to all snow later in the day. "The greatest amount of snow, on the order of 6-12 inches, is forecast well north and west of the city with the nearby northern and western suburbs projected to receive 3-6 inches. Around the Five Boroughs, 1-3 inches will fall with lesser amounts farther to the east on Long Island and farther south in New Jersey." (accuweather.com)
"The roads should be sloppier the further travelers head inland, with parts of northern New Jersey and the mid-Hudson Valley forecast to see more than 8 inches of snow. Expect just a dusting for New York City, Long Island and coastal New Jersey, Storm Team 4 says."
So basically, having digested the information all over the internet, and the weather sites, we can expect Wednesday to be a mess. Whether it's rain or snow, travel will be impacted and if you must travel, you should leave as early as possible Wednesday, or better yet today!
Stay safe and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
