Westchester Resident Hopes To Raise $100,000 For Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Ronnie Ram, White Plains resident, CEO and co-founder of inbound marketing and outdoor advertising company, InspiriaMedia Group, will be participating in this year’s Man & Woman of the Year Fundraiser (MWOY).

MWOY is a ten-week fundraising competition hosted annually by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), culminating in a Grand Finale Celebration Gala. Participants across the country organize local fundraising teams and compete for the Man or Woman of the Year title. Whoever raises the most funds in their community within the time period is awarded the title. Their total is then considered for the national title of Man or Woman of the Year. White Plains resident, Ram, is participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley Chapter’s competition.

The funds participants raise are used for LLS blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer patients or survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year.

The 2017 Girl of the Year is twelve-year-old Julianna Vano from Yorktown Heights. She was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) in 2014. She is now in remission and credits her relatively quick recovery to LLS research. She says, “Fundraising for LLS is important because without all of the research they’ve done, I may have been undergoing treatment for 3 years instead of 8 months. LLS offers great support to families of patients, too! The continued work of LLS helps keep kids at home and with their families. This is important because I know what is feels like to stay in the hospital and be away from my family.”

Blair Fogle, LLS’s Vice President of Special Events, explains that there are no means of preventing or screening for most blood cancers so the organization is focused on finding cures. “Our Man & Woman of the Year candidates embody the idea that individuals can make a difference with hard work and dedication. This year, more than 80 cities will have candidates participating. Each candidate exemplifies that everyone wins when cancer loses,” says Fogle.

White Plains resident, Ram, has been involved with LLS for many years, as a volunteer, committee member, and a board member. Ram says, “I've met patients, parents and researchers and have seen firsthand what this great organization can do. ”

“Last year was the tenth anniversary of losing my mom to breast cancer, following the loss of my dad to multiple myeloma the year prior. I’ve seen the tremendous strides that the LLS funded research has done for current patients. With your help, we can ensure that future patients and their families have better access to treatments and cures.” Ram says.

The MWOY Gala honors the Boy and Girl of the Year and the candidates who support them.

Starting on April 6th at 12:01am midnight, donations will be accepted for Ram’s campaign for MWOY. The goal is to raise $1 million locally. To join Ram’s campaign, you can visit teamram.org and donate as a corporate sponsor, an individual donor, and/or by purchasing tickets for the gala.
