Grand Prix Sponsors SurviveTheDrive Hendrick Hudson High School Visit

Grand Prix New York and SurviveTheDrive paired up to teach another group of teens the importance of driver safety and the responsibility that comes along with operating a vehicle.

The two first came together in 2011 to spread this message and have continued to conduct similar presentations over the past few years. Bob Green, President and trainer of SurviveTheDrive, understands the vulnerability teens can feel while behind the wheel and wants them to take their safety and the safety of the drivers around them seriously.

"Whether or not it's inadvertent, car crashes can lead to injury or have fatal results and no one thinks it will be their error that causes it," Green said. "We use the time we have with these teens to help them put in the effort and attention necessary to prevent tragedy."

Bob Green, who has held presentations for thousands of students in the past, did the same for more than 100 teenagers and their parents at Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, NY recently. As an added bonus, the students in attendance gained eligibility for a school parking permit. Green used PowerPoint slide shows, visual demonstrations and his own stories to reiterate the dangers young drivers face.

Teens are at the highest risk of being involved in a fatal car crash. In the U.S. alone, over 5000 teens die each year due to driver error, and that's not counting the victims they take with them. Worldwide, over 1.2 million people die on public roads and 50 million are injured. Additionally, the National Safety Council estimates that almost 25% of all car crashes have involved cell phone use and that drivers using cell phones are 4 times as likely to be involved in a crash.

Grand Prix New York has been committed to educating young drivers on ways to be safe behind the wheel. "We're proud to support SurviveTheDrive in their efforts to impart safe driving skills on young adults. What they do for teens is wonderful and we're happy to have a hand in it," GPNY Vice President Nat Mundy said.

This visit marks the last of the school year but SurviveTheDrive and GPNY will continue to sponsor more visits starting in the Fall.
