Milford's Boys & Girls Village Hosts Staff Appreciation Day

On Wednesday, September 17, Boys & Girls Village (BGV) held its annual Staff Appreciation Day on its Milford campus for both its Milford and Bridgeport staff. More than 100 staff members participated in the event that is designed to acknowledge BGV employees for their dedication and performance.

The afternoon kicked off with a spectacular lunch served to line staff by members of the BGV leadership and management teams. BGV provided DJ entertainment, a photo booth for fun pics, and an ice cream truck for a sweet surprise.

Staff members participated in potato sack races, played Frisbee or simply enjoyed the music. Employees also had the opportunity to climb Project Adventure, a ropes course that BGV uses for group counseling and confidence building exercises. There were raffles, giveaways and even a “find the staff member who” scavenger hunt. Employees soaked in the sun drenched day and each other’s company.

“Our Staff Appreciation Day is a fun event that celebrates how critical our staff is to our success,” said Michele Sommer, Vice President of Human Resources at BGV. “It is the commitment of our staff that make us who we are and allows us to provide the best possible service to Connecticut’s most vulnerable children and families.”

Staff Appreciation Day is just one of the many events and initiatives BGV provides employees throughout the year. Through employee engagement, BGV inherits increased event participation, greater employee retention and an overall positive morale at the agency.

“We realize that working with at-risk youth is not always easy, however it comes with great rewards,” said Michele Sommer, Vice President of Human Resources at BGV. “Our goal is to provide the same level of support to our staff members that they provide to our children. We are constantly seeking new ideas and implementing new programs to engage our employees, increase their satisfaction, and promote universal health and well-being.”
