From Connecticut to the Serengeti: Getting Kids off the Street and Into School

Editor's note: please consider helping these children become scholars by donating $5.

Ridgefield resident Barbara Poole is the Founder & Director of Serengeti Scholars, a project of her nonprofit organization, Build Tanzanian Family Futures (BTFF).

With many Tanzanian families unable to afford the $300 per year cost of schooling for their children, Poole, along with her husband, Norman, are on a mission to make every child of Tanzania a scholar by reducing illiteracy, poverty and early mortality through education and health out reach.

“We believe that if a student has progressed to secondary school, there is tremendous drive and motivation on the part of the young man or woman to have a career. And a career guarantees the opportunity to rise out of poverty,” explains Poole.

HamletHub supports and commends Barbara and Norman for the work they are doing to provide education in one of the poorest countries in the world. We hope you will too.
