Devon Rotary Supports Boys & Girls Village

May 20, 2015.  The Devon Rotary Club has been a longtime supporter of Boys & Girls Village (BGV). At the club’s recent breakfast meeting, Club President Rick Zwiebel presented a grant of $1,000 to Scott Gentry, Vice President of Development and Marketing for BGV.

Mr. Gentry offered heartfelt thanks, a brief description of BGV services, and information on how the gift will make an impact on the children served by BGV’s programs.

BGV operates a special education day school on its Milford campus. Approximately 70 students from throughout the state attend daily classes and therapy at the Charles F. Hayden School. The educational program is designed to help children, Kindergarten through 10th grade, achieve the emotional, behavioral and academic growth needed for them to return to a mainstream school setting.

The grant from Devon Rotary Club will purchase items for the school’s “point stores.” These stores are stocked with items that BGV students may want, such as sports equipment, games, electronic toys, and educational materials. Once a week, students can redeem points that they earn for demonstrating positive behavior and therapeutic progress.

According to Jon Oddo, BGV’s Vice President of Education and Vocational Services, “This money helps us purchase items that our students never would have a chance to buy and enjoy. Through working hard and achieving high standards in the Charles F. Hayden School, our students now have a chance to earn positive reinforcing items they deserve.”
