Norma Pfriem Breast Center Marks 15th Year with Pink Pledge

For the first time, Fairfielders will see the town turn pink in October to support the Norma Pfriem Breast Center as it marks its 15th anniversary of helping women in the community fight breast cancer.

The Pink Pledge, a month-long, community-wide campaign, will raise funds for Norma Pfriem Breast Center’s life-saving programs for women in need while promoting breast cancer awareness and early detection.

The center’s hometown of Fairfield will host a Pink Pledge kickoff Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Sherman Green Gazebo, Post Road, Fairfield. The evening begins with a Stroll for Strength (just under a mile) starting at 5:30 pm at the center’s offices at 111 Beach Road and will end at the gazebo. Participants are asked to arrive between 5 - 5:15 pm to line up for the stroll, which will be led by a pink Fairfield Police cruiser. Cancer survivors are invited to add their Signatures of Strength to the car that evening and throughout the month. The pink police cruiser will be seen around town all month. For more information or to register for the Stroll for Strength please contact Christina Casimiro at  christina.casimiro@bpthosp.org or 203-255-5300.

At the 6 pm kickoff on Sherman Green, Star 99.9 radio personality Anna Zap will provide music and announcements throughout the evening. Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau will issue an official proclamation, followed by a live drawing for the first of five weekly chance prizes and other surprises to help turn Fairfield pink. Guests should arrive between 5:30 - 5:45 pm to secure a place for the kickoff.

“The Fairfield community has come together to lead the Pink Pledge in amazing ways by literally turning the whole town pink,” said Donna Twist, PhD, breast center executive director. “The purpose of the Pink Pledge campaign is to raise funds that will allow Norma Pfriem Breast Center to continue providing medical excellence, compassionate care and life-saving programs to all women regardless of their ability to pay.”

Throughout October, Fairfield businesses have pledged to support Norma Pfriem Breast Center and will offer special promotions and events to benefit the center. Businesses will also participate in a window-decorating contest. After the short program at the Sherman Green, the town is invited to continue the celebration at various downtown restaurants offering pink drink specials that evening.

Residents are invited to show their support by decorating the outside of their home. They can purchase a Pink It Up home decorating kit for $10 at a number of locations in town. Kits include a string of pink lights, luminaries, lawn flag and other fun items to help spark creativity. Photos of decorated homes can be posted on Facebook/Pink Pledge.
