Boys & Girls Village (BGV), with locations in Milford and Bridgeport, a statewide leader in providing behavioral health treatment, permanency planning, and educational services to Connecticut’s most vulnerable youth and their families, has been approved to receive $2,000,000 in funding by the state Bond Commission. The money will allow BGV to expand its Charles F. Hayden therapeutic day school, a state approved current special education school, to include an 11th and 12th grade. The school has more than doubled its student population over the last three years, serving students from more than 30 Connecticut communities.
In addition to the Hayden school, BGV’s Milford facilities include a 16-bed children’s psychiatric care unit, a 12-bed residential treatment program for boys, family reunification program, therapeutic foster care and various in-home psychiatric programs, and the agency’s administrative offices.
BGV also recently launched a new vocational program, Work To Learn, for youth (ages 16 to 21), which supports the ability of at-risk youth to achieve economic self-sufficiency and resiliency. Program participants receive extensive coaching and use their skillsets in a structured environment to operate their own small businesses.
“The Bond Commission’s approval of this funding is a testament to the trust placed in Boys & Girls Village to advance the health and care for Connecticut’s children and families by our partners in the Governor’s office, the Department of Children and Families, and our area legislators,” said Dr. Kant.
