Local business owners organize "LinkedIn Boot Camp For Veterans"

While the unemployment rate for veterans remains an alarming 2 percent higher than nonveterans (according to the US Department of Labor) two women business owners in Westport CT are stepping forward to offer a free class to help veterans in their job search. This free class, “LinkedIn Boot Camp For Veterans” will be held on November 7, 2014 from 8am to 2pm at the Norwalk Senior Center in Norwalk, CT.

This intensive five hour workshop is being taught by LinkedIn expert, Sandra Long owner of Post Road Consulting LLC. During the training, LinkedIn profile headshots or business portraits will be created by professional portrait photographer Cynthia McIntyre, owner of Cynthia McIntyre Photography. In addition, each veteran will be getting a business suit from Save-A-Suit.

“My son is a veteran so I want to do my part to help veterans in honor of their service to our county,” said Sandra Long. “Studies indicate that 98% of employers and recruiters use LinkedIn as a recruiting tool. I know first-hand that a great LinkedIn profile and headshot will accelerate a job search.”

Unemployed veterans are encouraged to take advantage of this free class. In 2013, Governor Malloy noted that more than 8000 veterans are expected to return to Connecticut over the next several years.

“Your headshot on LinkedIn says a great deal about you,” commented Cynthia McIntyre. “When I create a headshot , I elicit natural expressions and body language that presents you in a professional manner to the viewer. A headshot created by a professional photographer is indicative of your professionalism.”

Sponsors are being sought to support this free training program and professional headshot for unemployed veterans. For more information about becoming a sponsor or making a donation to one of the recipient organizations in support of this class, call 203-221-2649. Recipients of the donations are the Save-A-Suit nonprofit organization that provides our former military and college graduates with professional business attire and the confidence needed to succeed as well as the Norwalk CT Senior Center.

Registration is limited and pre-registration is required. To register call Sandra Long at 203-221-2649.
