Milford Public Library hosts The Problem of Opiate Abuse on September 19

The Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave., will host a program on the Opioid Epidemic in Connecticut presented by Dr. Charles McKay. The problem will be held on Tuesday, September 19 at 7 pm. McKay is a Medical Toxicologist at Hartford Hospital and the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine, where he is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine. He will discuss how this epidemic began, and suggest some responses that can turn around the epidemic.

He said the principal reason that we are seeing more clusters of deaths occurring in the state is the creation of highly potent synthetic opioids that have been added to or in place of heroin or packaged tablets and marketed on the street as a prescription tablet.

Connecticut has surpassed the national death rate for drug and opioid overdoses since 2013.  900 people have died in Connecticut this year alone. Come and learn about this growing crisis in our state. The program is free and open to all.
