School Refusal Workshop for Parents at Woodhouse Academy in Milford

Special Education Law Attorney Lawrence W. Berliner, and Kate Healey, a school psychologist, will be the featured speakers at a workshop for parents titled Special Education Law and Your Childs Rights: Navigating Parents Through the Process of Obtaining an Appropriate Education.

 The FREE workshop, open to the public, will take place on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Woodhouse Academy, which is located at 4 Oxford Road, Building, F., in Milford, Conn.  

This workshop will be hosted by Woodhouse Academy, a private therapeutic day school for students in grades seven through twelve located in Milford, Conn.

This workshop is devoted to helping parents acquire the knowledge, understanding, tools and strategies they need to impact their child’s educational experience and how a therapeutic placement can support a student with anxiety, depression, or school refusal.  

The Focus of the workshop will include:

  •        Top 10 Checklist: Strategies for parents during the school year and beyond
  •         Your child’s basic educational rights
  •        IEP: Understanding the Framework for Goals and Objectives
  •        Turning Point: The road ahead for parents when their child’s rights are denied by the school and their child is struggling
  •         School Refusal: How to overcome the hurdles and overwhelming effects 
  •        Finding a supportive learning environment to address: anxiety, depression, learning disabilities and social issues
  •        The Woodhouse therapeutic school model: using a collaborative approach with a nurturing, structured environment to problem solving, academic and emotional growth, always focusing on the individual child.

                                                   

Attorney Lawrence Berliner is a special education law attorney with offices in Westport and Guilford. He has devoted his practice to the field of special education law and disability law for 34 years.  Kate Healey will talk about how the Woodhouse Model helps students.
