The City of Milford celebrates 375 years! Be inspired, be dazzled, by some historical tidbits of Milford past.

In 1640 a militia company was formed. Captain John Astwood was in command; William Fowler was his lieutenant.

In 1800 Milford's population was 2,417.

In 1908 a twenty-one room schoolhouse was built on West River Street. It was a combined grade school and high school. The school had been previously housed in the town hall. The History of Milford 1639-1939 compiled by the Federal Writers' Project states:" Complaints were made at the time that the new school building was much too large for the needs of the town, but soon every desk was filled." (p.121)
