Milford Student Named NJCAA National Player of the Week

Herkimer Generals baseball player Christian Malave of Milford, Ct was named NJCAA DIII National Baseball Player of the Week.

Malave, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major at Herkimer helped the Generals score 56 runs last week, outscoring opponents by 33 runs. The first baseman drove in 10 runs with one double and two home runs. He leads the team with four home runs in 43 at-bats. The freshman also scored six runs, going 10-for-13 at the plate giving him a .769 batting average.

"Christian is a talented player, and a welcomed edition to our team," said Head Baseball Coach Jason Rathbun. "He's exceeded our expectations thus far, and we look forward in watching him develop to be a better player for us these next two seasons."

Herkimer College is a unit of the State University of New York, located in Herkimer, NY about 20 miles east of Utica, NY. With an enrollment of approximately 3,200 students, Herkimer offers more than 40 associate degree and certificate programs, on-campus housing, an active co-curricular activities schedule and a national championship athletic program. Herkimer is a Division III member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and has amassed 53 national championships, 103 Region III titles, 145 Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference championships and 30 National Academic Team of the Year awards. Herkimer is ranked first in the nation among NJCAA non-scholarship athletic programs by winning the 2013-14 National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup, based on athletic success in championship competition.
