Mary and Louis Fusco Distinguished Lecture: Mariano Rivera & Joe Torre

Monday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m
The greatest closer of all-time and his Hall of Fame manager share the secrets to their success in a moderated Q+A  format with audience participation.

Mariano Rivera, the most dominating closer in the history of baseball, played 19 seasons (1995 to 2013) for the New York Yankees. The Sandman was a 13-time All-Star and 5-time World Series champion and is Major League Baseball’s career leader in saves (652) and games finished (952). Outside of baseball, Rivera has been involved in philanthropic causes and the Christian community through the Mariano Rivera Foundation. With its emphasis on youth-oriented programs, the foundation makes a difference in the lives of thousands of underserved children in the United States and abroad.

Following a celebrated playing career, Baseball Hall of Fame Manager Joe Torre led the Yankees to 10 American League East division titles, six American League pennants, and four World Series championships from 1996 to 2007. Torre is also chairman of the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation, which he and his wife, Ali, launched in 2002. The foundation’s mission is to develop educational programs to help end the cycle of domestic violence and save lives. In 2010, President Barack Obama appointed Torre to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women. Since October 2011, Torre has served as co-chair of the U.S. Justice Department’s National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence.
