Connecticut Press Club to Present Awards to Local Communications Professionals

Author Jane Green to Emcee May 16th Ceremony in Westport

The Connecticut Press Club announced today that author (and former journalist) Jane Green will emcee their awards night on Tuesday, May 16. Jane's cookbook, Good Taste, was published in 2016, and her latest book, The Sunshine Sisters, is due out in June. The author is also published in more than 25 languages and has over 10 million books in print worldwide.

The Connecticut Press Club will salute winners of their 2017 Communications Contest with a cocktail party and awards ceremony at The Boathouse at Saugatuck, 521 Riverside Avenue, Westport, at 6:00 p.m. The contest is held annually and spans a variety of categories—e.g., specialty articles, speeches, columns, personal opinion, personality profiles, prose/photo essays, poetry, nonfiction books, anthology excerpts, and more. Award recipients, their guests, current and prospective members, and the community at large are invited to attend the Tuesday evening event.

The cost is $45 per person, which covers hors d’oeuvres, wine, and beer. To RSVP, visit EventBrite.com by May 11. Walk-ins are welcome and payment will also be taken at the door.

Additionally, club members can tout their businesses, books, etc., via promotional goody bags to be given out at the evening’s end. Those who wish to participate should contact Aline Weiller at wordsmithllc@optonline.net.

The Connecticut Press Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW), and includes both male and female members. Though inactive in recent years, the club has been relaunched under the leadership of Michele Turk, a Greenwich-based writer/editor and owner of A Bloc of Writers, Inc. The club’s base was once comprised solely of print and broadcast journalists, but now welcomes all types of communicators: writers, editors, bloggers, authors, educators, public relations professionals, media photographers, students, and others. Plans for the coming year include lectures by sought-after speakers, professional development workshops, networking, and social outings.

“Our awards night is an opportunity to celebrate and highlight the impressive work of our members, who are accomplished professionals with a variety of communications backgrounds,” said Turk. “It’s also a chance to acknowledge the importance of press freedoms in our democracy at a time when the media is under siege.”
