The Watermark at 3030 Park, a continuing care retirement community in Bridgeport, recently recognized residents for their distinguished volunteer efforts in the greater Bridgeport and Fairfield communities. Residents were honored at the ceremony with certificates, marking their service and volunteer history.
Among those recognized were residents Helen Wasserman and George Ruderman. Wasserman co-founded two local volunteer programs: The School Volunteer Association, a city-wide program of readers, tutors and mentors who work with Bridgeport's children, and the Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition, a collection of organizations committed to research, advocacy, community education and mobilization. Wasserman has lent her time and efforts in both the leadership of these organizations and subsequent volunteer work.
Ruderman, a three-year resident at The Watermark, has been a member of the School Volunteer Association for the past two decades and continues to visit Blackham Elementary School on a weekly basis. He is lovingly referred to by students as “Curious George.” Ruderman’s wife, Lis spoke during the ceremony, noting the importance of volunteering and its impact on the greater community and volunteers themselves.
