Special Meeting Notice from the Walnut Beach Association

Special Meeting Announcement
Coastal expert will speak about erosion
and beach replenishment

Are you concerned about our beaches washing away? We need to be prepared for future storms. Dr. James Tait, Professor of Marine and Environmental Sciences at Southern Connecticut State University will be speaking informally about "Beach and Storm Waves" on Tuesday, Dec. 8th at 7 p.m. at the Wildermere Beach Church hall. Members of the Wildemere Beach Association, Walnut Beach Association and all Milford residents who are concerned about or interested in beach replenishment are encouraged to attend.

Dr. Tait has been talking with Milford residents and residents in other Connecticut shoreline towns about vulnerability to future storms and widespread need for beach restoration. His research indicates that a wide beach was the most common factor in minimizing storm wave damage during Irene and Sandy. Dr. Tait's research interests include: Coastal Erosion and Storm impacts, Coastal Landscape Evolution, Impact of Engineering Structures on Beaches.

Among other memberships, he belongs to the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association, the Environmental and Engineering Geology Division of the Geological Society of America and served on the Science Advisory Committee of the Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. Also attending will be Dr. Elyse Zavar, Professor of Geography in the Department of the Environment, Geography and Marine Sciences at SCSU. Dr. Zavar has begun research on recovery funding after Sandy; what was available and how was it spent.

If you would like more information and/or wish to support beach replenishment, you are encouraged to attend this meeting If you have any questions, please call Connie Pino at 203-362-7055.

This is an important issue for all of us. We hope to see you there.
