Milford Garden Club Sets Photography Exhibit Date

September is the time for Milford gardeners to take photos of late-blooming flowers. Throughout the month of December 2016, The Milford Public Library will host the Milford Garden Club’s second photo exhibit: “FLOWER POWER: THE GARDENS OF MILFORD.”

“We invite all Milford gardeners to show photos of the flowers they have grown this summer,” said club president Bunny Elmore. “As we did two years ago, when Mayor Ben Blake awarded certificates of honor to three outstanding photo-gardeners, we will showcase the city’s official flower. This year we invite gardeners to submit photos of other flowering plants as well as Milford’s Coneflower.”

As part of Milford’s celebration of its 375th Anniversary, the Board of Aldermen formally approved the Eastern Purple Coneflower, Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus,’ as Milford’s Official Flower. More than 35 gardeners exhibited their photos of Milford’s flower at the first show in 2014.

In conjunction with the library staff, the club’s Milford Flower Committee is working to prepare for the event, which will run December 2 through December 30 in the library gallery. City gardeners may obtain complete information and entry guidelines by emailing milfordofficialflower@gmail.com.

“As part of the club’s 90th Anniversary Celebration, we are happy to be able to sponsor this event for the Milford community,” said Elmore. “During the cold days of winter, it will be especially nice to enjoy photos of Milford’s abundant home-grown flowers.”
