Order Gives CT DPH Commissioner the Ability to Quarantine Exposed to or Infected with Ebola

Yesterday, Governor Dannel P. Malloy signed an order that gives the Commissioner of the Department of Public Health (DPH) the ability to effectively quarantine an individual or a group of individuals who may have been exposed to or infected with the Ebola virus.

The order is not being executed because a specific case has been identified, but rather as a precautionary and preparatory measure in the event that the state has either a confirmed infection or has confirmed that someone at risk of developing the infection is residing in the state.

This comes as new information is being reported that Thomas Eric Duncan, the Dallas Ebola patient, has passed and more locally, a patient at a Westchester hospital is being monitored for a possible case of Ebola. The patient is showing signs of a fever and was recently in contact with someone from Liberia. County Executive Rob Astorino wants some flights from Africa's Ebola infected areas grounded.

For more information on the order, please visit Governor Malloy's website: http://www.governor.ct.gov/malloy/cwp/view.asp?a=4010&Q=554440
