Protecting Our Environment and Our Neighborhoods

Silver Sands State Park is a local and state treasure nestled in one of Milford's most densely populated neighborhoods. The state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), which maintains the park, has proposed a multimillion dollar project for new buildings and amenities in Silver Sands--a proposal that includes charging $22 to park your car there.

During DEEP's stewardship much of the park has been well cared for. However, certain areas have fallen to neglect and inattention, including crime, the dumping of waste and the closing off of critical emergency vehicle access points. That is why I introduced legislation to give control of crucial parts of Silver Sands back to Milford--to protect our local neighborhoods and to be the environmental stewards DEEP has failed to be.

Mayor Blake joined me to testify in support of the legislation because we want to restore and protect the environment in Silver Sands and preserve the integrity of our surrounding neighborhoods.
