Education and Support for Parents

The Southwest CT affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness ("NAMI") is offering a free 6-session course for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents under 17 with mental health challenges. NAMI Basics provides participants with practical insights into treatment and educational options, crucial skills training, peer support and approaches to advocacy.

Open to all area residents, the course will meet from 6:30 - 9:00 pm on Wednesdays from March 1 through April 5, 2017, at Grace Farms, 365 Lukes Wood Road, New Canaan. Advance registration is required - contact Janet Gordon at 203-517-9185, or Denise at 203-314-0208.

Developed by NAMI, the course focuses on “evidence-based practices” most likely to produce positive outcomes as validated through clinical research. It will be led by trained volunteers with "lived experience" - they know what you're going through because they've been there.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation's largest grassroots, nonprofit organization aimed at improving quality of life for people living with mental illness and their families.
