New Canaan Library is pleased to announce that  acclaimed  journalist, documentary filmmaker, and multiple Peabody and Emmy Award–winning producer Chris Whipple will be guest speaker for the Library's 2017 William Attwood Memorial Lecture. The crucial, and ultimately powerful, role of any president's chief of staff is compellingly explored and detailed in his recently released book THE GATEKEEPERS: How the White House Chiefs of Staff Define Every Presidency.

The Attwood Lecture will be held Thursday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room.  A light reception will precede the lecture at 6 p.m. Copies of The Gatekeepers will be available for purchase, provided by Elm Street Books. Please register for this program online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

THE GATEKEEPERS presents a riveting, unique, in-depth and behind-the-scenes perspective on how the effectiveness of the White House chief of staff shapes the critical decisions of the  president he serves. Based on extensive, frank interviews with all seventeen living chiefs of staff and two former presidents, Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush, THE GATEKEEPERSis the story of the influential, and vital, men who defined the presidencies during which they served.
