Happy Birthday Robbie Burns

Burns Night is celebrated by Scots around the world, commemorating the life and cultural contributions of Scotland's National Poet - Robert Burns. Born on January 25th, 1759, suppers are hosted annually around that date. The poet from Ayrshire sadly died of rheumatic fever at the young age of 37. His funeral was held on the same day his son Maxwell was born. His body was transferred from a churchyard grave to a mausoleum in Dumfries, where his wife Jean Armour was also laid to rest after her death in 1834.

You can celebrate 'Burns Night' with Goldenberry authentic Scottish treats! Try some Scottish oatcakes for cheese,  Scottish beef pies, haggis & Scottish beef sausages! Scottish tea and preserves, chutneys, wonderful Scottish shortbread.

There is also a Burns Dinner being hosted by Boulevard 18 on Thursday, January 29th at 7pm http://news.hamlethub.com/newcanaan/events/1079-robert-burns-dinner

A Red, Red Rose - by Robert Burns

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
   That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
   That’s sweetly played in tune.

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
   So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
   Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
   And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
   While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!
   And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
   Though it were ten thousand mile.
