USA Women's Soccer Team Defeat Japan

Congratulations ladies - the USA Women's soccer team beat Japan 5-2 in the FIFA World Cup final, held last night in Vancouver, British Columbia. The USA team dominated from kick-off. Following are some facts from the game:

  • America reclaimed the World Cup title, making them the first team to win it three times (previously in 1991 and 1999)

  • Japan was 3-0 down in the first 14 minutes, their squad is seeded No 4 in the world, US is No 2 

  • Carli Lloyd scored three times in the first half, one was from the half-way line

  • Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath scored the other goals for the United States

  • The win comes four years after crushing defeat against Japan in penalty shoot-out 

Hope Solo wins was awarded the Golden Glove as top goalkeeper

When Carli Lloyd was interviewed she said: “We just made history, I was on a mission.”
