To coincide with New Canaan's Fifth Annual Taste of the Town Stroll (on Thursday, August 20th) a ‘Lobster Roll-Off’ competition was organized and hosted by local TV personality Chef Plum, of Plum-Luv-Foods.
The crustacean food clash took place in the Pop-Up Park - where participants included: Baldanza, Cava, Fishtales, Fjord Fish Market and Silvermine Market.
Expertly judging the rolls were: First Selectman, Rob Mallozzi III; Executive Director New Canaan Chamber of Commerce, Tucker Murphy; and Elm Restaurant Executive Chef, Luke Venner (1 of 17 restaurants voted "Best Warm Lobster Roll on the Connecticut Coast" by CT Bites).
The 2015 Taste of The Town Stroll, which requires participants to donate to the Food Pantry, is thought to have raised approximately $6,000 worth of food contributions.
Each participant produced a first class Lobster Roll but in the end the judges had the hard task of choosing each winning category. Following are the results. What was clear is that everyone has their own opinion and preference as long as BUTTER was involved.
- Best Lookin’ - Baldanza
- Best Balance of flavors - Fishtales
- Meatiest - Silvermine Market
- Most Classic – Fjord Fish Market
- Best of the Best - Cava Wine Bar & Restaurant
