CT Press Club Honors Literaries at Annual Awards Event

Last week, storytellers, journalists and scribes gathered at the beautiful Boathouse in Westport to be honored for their literary ingenuity.

Under the direction of Michele Turk, the recently relaunched and reinvigorated Connecticut Press Club saluted winners of their 2017 Communications Contest spanning a variety of categories including specialty articles, speeches, columns, personal opinion, personality profiles, prose/photo essays, poetry, nonfiction books, and anthology excerpts.

“Our awards night is an opportunity to celebrate and highlight the impressive work of our members, who are accomplished professionals with a variety of communications backgrounds,” said Turk. “It’s also a chance to acknowledge the importance of press freedoms in our democracy at a time when the media is under siege.”

The event was emceed by Westport resident, Jane Green, the author of eighteen novels, of which seventeen are New York Times Bestsellers.

The Connecticut Press Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW), and includes both male and female members. Though inactive in recent years, the club has been relaunched under the leadership of Michele Turk, a Greenwich-based writer/editor and owner of A Bloc of Writers, Inc. The club’s base was once comprised solely of print and broadcast journalists, but now welcomes all types of communicators: writers, editors, bloggers, authors, educators, public relations professionals, media photographers, students, and others. Plans for the coming year include lectures by sought-after speakers, professional development workshops, networking, and social outings.
