Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance and Thrown Stone Enter 5-Year Collaborative Partnership

Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance and Thrown Stone Theatre Company announced a 5-year collaboration today. Following Thrown Stone’s 2017 debut at RCD, the U.S. Premiere of Milk by Ross Dunsmore, the two organizations were eager to work together again.

“We were discussing our plans for next summer with [RCD Artistic Director] Amy Piantaggini and [RCD Board Chairman] Howard Turner, when it became clear that there were a lot of ways we could work together for mutual success,” said Thrown Stone Co-Artistic Director Jonathan Winn.

The agreement gives Thrown Stone the option to perform summer productions at RCD for the next five years. During that period, Thrown Stone will help permanently outfit the space as a flexible studio/performance venue. The two organizations will also collaborate on marketing and outreach.

“We were very impressed with what Thrown Stone was able to achieve in our space,” said Turner, “and we see this not only as a chance to bring them back, but to expand our own production capabilities.”

The collaboration has already yielded fruit. Thrown Stone Production Manager Cyrus Newitt recently volunteered his time to create an innovative “growing” Christmas tree for RCD’s upcoming production of The Nutcracker at the Ridgefield Playhouse.

“Everybody’s so excited about the tree,” said Piantaggini, “but we know this is only the beginning of what we can accomplish together.”

Thrown Stone Co-Artistic Director, Jason Peck agreed, “the Conservatory was such an unbelievably great host and collaborator. To be invited back for another production is an honor. To work together for the next five years is a dream come true.”
