Services Monday at St. Aloysius Church for Nico Mallozzi of New Canaan

Nico Antonio Mallozzi, age 10 of New Canaan, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 14, 2018.  He was the beloved son of Joseph and Mimma Mallozzi of New Canaan.

Nico was born in Norwalk on December 1, 2007.  Known for his spirit and vitality, he was an avid hockey player, spending most days in the company of his much-loved team, the CTRoughRiders. When surrounded by his head coach and friend, Tomasz Piatek, and the many devoted coaches and players at Sono Ice House, Nico was truly in his element. Regarded for his affable and humorous nature, he loved to spend time on ice and off with his fellow players and friends of all ages in Fairfield County and beyond.

When Nico wasn’t skating, he spent his time outdoors – boating with his family, snowmobiling, riding his dune buggy, and enjoying summers at Camp Playland. A fourth-grade student at West Elementary School in New Canaan, Nico adored his teachers and peers, and the many social opportunities and connections that school presented. Above all, Nico cherished his family and his time with them. He will be infinitely missed by his sister, Marina, and his brothers, Joseph and Michael. In addition to his parents and siblings, Nico is survived by his maternal grandparents, Antonio and Maria Romeo, his paternal grandparents, Ottavio and Andonetta Mallozzi, and his many aunts, uncles and cousins…all of whom loved him dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry St., New Canaan, 10 AM, on Monday, January 22.  Entombment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.  The wake will also be held at St. Aloysius Church on Sunday, January 21; Nico’s family will receive friends from 2-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to The USA Hockey Foundation, the philanthropic arm of USA Hockey (www.usahockeyfoundation.com ).
