Ridgefield Hockey Players are #NicoStrong

When word spread last weekend, that Nico Mallozzi, a 10-year old Connecticut resident and local hockey player, had passed away from complications from the flu, families in Ridgefield were heartbroken. The local hockey community is small but active, and several players on the Pee Wee teams fielded by the Ridgefield Amateur Hockey Association (RAHA) have taken clinics or played in leagues with a New Canaan resident. And as always, when a family is in need and grieving, Ridgefielders take action.

Although a Go Fund Me page has been set-up for the family, Mimi van Wees whose daughter Truus is a Pee Wee AA for Ridgefield felt just donating seemed impersonal. Truus had taken a clinic with Nico last summer and Mimi had spent time at the rink with his family. Mimi wanted to do more, so she and Truus and the RAHA Pee Wees organized a bake sale today at the Winter Garden Ice Arena.

On this beautiful winter day, there was quite a collection of delicious baked good available for a donation to the Mallozzi family. At the end of day, these 10-year olds and their families raised $777.75 for the Mallozzi family. I guess you could say that today Ridgefield was #NicoStrong.
