A young man from New Fairfield was shot and killed early Sunday morning in the Mobil Station parking lot when a handgun he was holding accidentally misfired. Kevin Pannell, 21,  had been showing the gun to some friends when it went off. According to state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance, Pannell was the rightful owner of the gun, which was legally registered. There will be no further criminal investigation into this case.

Kevin Pannell was much loved. Since the incident, his Facebook page has been overflowing with friends reaching out recalling memorable times they had shared. Many comments reflect his sparkling and outrageous sense of humor and his ability to always make people laugh. Several friends call him one of the funniest people they have ever met.

Kevin's death comes at a time when New Fairfield is experiencing a series of far too many young, tragic losses. May we always cherish our loved ones. Rest well Kevin Pannell.
