Connecticut Choral Society to present three Candlelight and Carols Concerts

Candlelight and Carols Concert: SNOW!

Tickets are now available for the Connecticut Choral Society’s three Candlelight and Carols concerts on Friday, December 9th, 8 pm (Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown), and both Saturday, December 9th and Sunday, December 10th, 3 pm (North Congregational Church, 11 Main Street North, Woodbury).

Under the direction of Eric Dale Knapp, this holiday celebration of the season features music inspired by snow, with styles ranging from traditional to pop to swing. The program begins with a gentle and reflective opening, and builds through bold proclamation and joyous celebration. Highlights include On This Winter’s Night, the 2012 mega-holiday hit from the Grammy-award winning group Lady Antebellum, and Snow on Snow, by Philip Lawson of the world-renowned King's Singers. The audience is invited to join with the ensemble to sing Irving Berlin’s much-loved classic, White Christmas.

The program will feature the world premiere of Snowflakes Fall, a new work by Southbury resident Ron Dukenski, scored for choir, keyboard, soprano sax and bass violin. Mr. Dukenski, one of the ensemble’s composers-in-residence, comments, “It is a unique a cappella “musical impression” for the winter season, drawing on metaphors that speak to our individual uniqueness and collective diversity caring for each other, and caring for the earth. Just as snowflakes come together in their uniqueness to create a mantle of calm and peace, we as humankind, at our best, can come together in peace for our own sake and for the sake of our good earth.”

Tickets are $25 for adults (add $5 at the door), and $20 for seniors and youth). Buy tickets at www.CtChoralSociety.com, by calling 888-927-2933, or at the door.
