Junior at New Fairfield High School Wins National Travel Award

Gabrielle Richichi, a junior at New Fairfield High School, has won the 2014 Junior Travel Award for her achievement on the National Spanish Examination and for her excellent skills in the Spanish language.

Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, Director of the National Spanish Examinations, said: "This national award is quite prestigious for New Fairfield High School. It is valued at over $3,000, and is only awarded to sixteen (16) students from across the United States from among the 160,000 students who take the exam each year. Students become eligible by earning high scores on the National Spanish Examination and then submitting samples of their written and oral work in Spanish to a selection committee appointed by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese."

In July, Gabrielle will be traveling to Spain with the other 15 winners.

New Fairfield High School, which has a long history of excellence in academics, has participated in the National Spanish Examination for the last 5 years. Congratulations to Gabrielle and her Spanish teachers, Kristen Scappaticci, Carol Wantman and Ernest Fabrizio-García, who should be very proud of her accomplishments.
