New Fairfield School School Delay

A message from Dr. Alicia Roy, Superintendent of Schools for today, Tuesday, December 9th:

"Good morning,

I am Dr. Alicia Roy, Superintendent of Schools in New Fairfield. The opening of school will be delayed three hours today. Morning preschool is cancelled.

Thank you. "

A Nor'easter aimed at Connecticut today is already delaying openings across southwestern Connecticut due to icy road conditions. Though temperatures are going to remain slightly too high for snow, we will see 3 inches of cold rain and sleet through the day.

The National Weather Service has posted a number of watches, warnings and advisories includng the following:

- A winter weather advisory is in effect until 9 AM for northern Fairfield and New Haven counties due to freezing rain causing icy road conditions.

- A flood watch is also in effect for northern Fairfield and New Haven counties. Some small rivers have the potential of overflowing their banks.

-A wind advisory also in effect from 8 AM to 5 PM today. Northeast winds are expected from 15 to 25 MPH with gusts up to 40 MPH. That means there’s the potential for power outages.
