New Fairfield Town Tribune Announces Website

The Town Tribune is excited to announce the launch of its website www.TheTownTribune.com. Designed to give readers an opportunity to find reliable New Fairfield and Sherman news online and to provide ease for advertisers, the website, designed by PC Guys in Danbury, CT, went live during New Fairfield Day on Saturday, September 17th.

“We had been working on creating a website for the newspaper ever since we purchased the paper back in March, “explained Ms. Mattiace, “it was something that took careful thought and attention. We wanted to give readers the online news access they were looking for, give advertisers a place to interact, and yet still support our print media.”

Once logged on to www.TheTownTribune.com, users have the ability to place classified ads, subscribe to the newspaper, pay bills, or submit stories and ads. Social media also plays a factor in the website design. “We wanted movement on the page. As a weekly paper, there isn’t much day to day action so we wanted our readers to be able to log on at any time of the day and find something new to read about our towns through our local Twitter feed,” said the pair.

Another nice addition is the Photo Gallery feature, which allows the publishers to share more photos than they have space for in their typically black and white weekly.

Publishers Marylou Schirmer and Kate Mattiace purchased the newspaper in March 2016 and worked quickly to give the paper a fresh look and bring the paper forward digitally. Within a month, the paper moved from paste up to fully digital production. They announced the addition of credit and debit card management soon after. Users on the website have the option now of paying for classified and display advertisements with either PayPal, debit, or credit cards. Advertising is also available on the website in conjunction with print advertising packages.

“Our main objective going into the Tribune was to stabilize the paper financially in order to ensure its survival,” said Publisher and Advertising Director Marylou Schirmer, “our advertisers have been loyal and the changes were all made with the promise to keep our hometown newspaper alive in our towns while also allowing us to offer our readers and advertisers so many new options."

Social media and an online presence also helped the partners keep closer tabs on what is happening here in our towns. You can find the Town Tribune on Twitter @Town_Tribune and also on Facebook. “When residents talk, we listen. We both live here in New Fairfield, have worked at the paper for many years, are raising our families here so we are as invested as anyone as to what happens in our towns. The newspaper is here to support our community,” they stated, “the website gives us the opportunity to share and interact more with the public.”  Readers are invited to submit story ideas and press releases to editorial@thetowntribune.com.
