Winter Storm Update: Snow Totals, Black Ice, Power Outages & More

At 3:00 PM moderate snow and sleet was falling across Western CT with rain and sleet falling in Eastern CT.    Temperatures are currently in the upper 20's in northern CT to the mid 30's at the coast.  Northeast winds are gusting to 40 - 45 MPH across most of the state.  Total snowfall thus far ranges from 2 - 4 inches in Southeastern CT, 9 - 16 inches across the rest of Southern CT and 10 - 20 inches across northern CT. Eversource is currently reporting a total of 3,588 outages across the state.

   

Winds are forecast to continue to gust to 45 - 50 MPH across the state during the next several hours.  The rain and sleet in Eastern CT is forecast to change back to snow showers during the next 3 hours.  Towns in northern CT may receive another 1" - 4" inches of snow before the snow tapers off by 10:00 PM.  However, winds will continue to gust to 30 MPH at times overnight with lows in the low to mid 20's with wind chills around 10 F.  Black ice is expected to form on many roads overnight causing some slick travel. 

 

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will continue to closely monitor this storm.
