Accumulating Snowfall Possible Late Tuesday into Wednesday

Greater Danbury Area Potential for 4 Inches of Snow

An area of low pressure developing ahead of an approaching cold front Tuesday night, January 16 will pass just south and east of Long Island on Wednesday. This will bring a period of snow to the region starting late Tuesday afternoon across the Lower Hudson Valley and Northern New Jersey, and then a mixture of snow and rain overspreading the remainder of the area Tuesday night. The precipitation will end from west to east Wednesday afternoon into early evening.

There is some uncertainty with the low pressure track which could have a significant outcome in precipitation type, especially across coastal locations of Connecticut and Long Island. Therefore, the winter weather advisory that has been issued has only been posted for western portions of the Tri-State area at this time.

Potential Snowfall Hazards and Impacts:

  • There is a moderate to high probability of an accumulating snowfall for most of the region Tuesday night into Wednesday. Light snow and/or flurries may precede the system Tuesday afternoon ahead of the approaching cold front. Travel may become hazardous due to limited visibility and snow covered roads.

There is a low chance for at least 6 inches of snow accumulation across the region, with the best chance being across the Lower Hudson Valley and interior southern Connecticut.
