In Memorial of Karen McKernan Fox

Karen Fox McKernan, 66 of New Fairfield, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Western Regional Hospice and Home Care Center for Comfort Care and Healing in Danbury. She was the wife of the late James F. McKernan II, USMC, MAJ (Ret.). She was the daughter of the late Richard and Susan Fox. She was the sister of the late Kevin Fox.

Karen was a well-established attorney of general law. She graduated from the University of St. Joseph with an undergraduate and graduate degree in early education. She later graduated from Pace University School of Law and started her law practice in 1984 in Danbury, Connecticut.

Throughout the years, Karen was active in both community and civic activities. She served as an alternate member to the Board of Finance in New Fairfield and was later elected as a full member. Karen also served as a past Chairperson of the Republican Town Committee of New Fairfield. She was a conservator for several of her clients and in 2008 was appointed as a Commissioner for the State of Connecticut's Office of Victim Services, a position which she held until her retirement in 2013.

In addition to her many community and civic activities, Karen was an avid reader, cook and gardener. Most dear to Karen however were her children and grandchildren. She was the beloved mother of Jessica (Meerbergen) Scully and her husband Bill of East Haddam, Jason Meerbergen and his fiancée, Rebecca Beach, of Carlsbad, California and Justin Meerbergen of Greenwich. She was the proud grandmother to Jack and Elle Scully and George Meerbergen all of whom she loved dearly. Besides her children and grandchildren she leaves her Brother Richard and his wife Linda of Illinois, her nephews, cousins, her dog Belle, her many dear friends and her McKernan family.

Karen's funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Edward Church, 21 Brush Hill Rd., New Fairfield, Connecticut. Following her Mass, her burial will be at State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut.
