Longtime New Fairfield resident, Jan A. Sandvik, 80, has died

Jan A. Sandvik, 80, of New Fairfield, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Eleanor (Pedersen) Sandvik.

Mr. Sandvik was born in Norway on December 28, 1936; a son of the late Leif and Johanna Sandvik. He served in the US Army during the 1950s.

A resident of New Fairfield for 47 years, Mr. Sandvik was a retired union carpenter of Local 2287.

In his spare time, Mr. Sandvik enjoyed snow skiiing and travelling, especially to St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands and back to Norway. Though he loved to travel, Mr. Sandvik would say "Away is good, but home is best" as he loved the home he and Eleanor built in New Fairfield.

Mr. Sandvik is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor and their children: Joan Roinestad and her husband, Steven, John Sandvik and his wife, Anne, David Sandvik and his wife, Nancy, Steven Sandvik and his wife, Kelly and Nancy Yassin.

He is also survived by 17 grandchildren: Johnny, Annette, Glenn, Anita, Jeffrey, Lisa, Joy, David Jr, Nicholas, Luke, Nicole, Kaitlyn, Megan, Ryan, Sammy, Ronny and Alex  as well as 7 great grandchildren: Betina, Brooklyn, Brinkley, Brayden, Alli, Brett and Lydia.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sandvik was predeceased by a brother, Svien.

Friends will be received on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Northeast Baptist Church; 101 East Pembroke Road, Danbury. A prayer service will be held on Thursday evening at 5:00 PM at the church. Interment will be private. Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
