Wooster School’s 90th Convocation

On Friday, September 4, 2015, the official start to Wooster School’s 90th year began. The entire school gathered in the Forever Young Gymnasium for this special event.

The youngest and oldest students in our community gathered, with kindergarteners and seniors sitting together, displaying how strong of a community we are.

Head of School, Matt Byrnes, welcomed the community and introduced Rev. Mark Lingle who led everyone in the school prayer.

Continuing in a time honored tradition, Senior Prefect, Anna Krzyzewski (Pawling, NY), led everyone in the reciting of the School Honor Code. Tradition continued as we celebrated Crayons to Commencement. Students who began their Wooster School careers in the Lower School, and are now seniors, were recognized. The thirteen seniors were each presented with a box of crayons, symbolic of their early days on the campus of Wooster School. The students recognized were: Harrison Becker, Ridgefield, CT; Abby Curillo, Danbury, CT; Jada Cushnie, Carmel, NY; Trevor Jones, Danbury, CT; Jamie MacNutt, New Milford, CT; Kathryn Madaloni, Ridgefield, CT; Danielle Martin, Pound Ridge, NY; Matt McCutcheon, Danbury, CT; Cole Munk, Carmel, NY; Nicolai Nosworthy, Danbury, CT; Leonard Reid, New Milford, CT; Glenn Unger, Brookfield, CT; and Aaron Young, Norwalk, CT.

Mr. Byrnes then gave his inspiring remarks. “Be present and thoughtful in what you do this year. Physical presence is better than a virtual presence, because it normally requires that you be mindful of your words and actions. Be gentle with yourself and with others. Slow down and take the time to think and be thoughtful in each other's presence. Be brave enough to forgive others when it is easiest to just be angry.”

Convocation concluded with a musical presentation of the song “A Brand New Day” which was performed by Middle and Upper School musicians and singers, Wooster Music and Theatre Department Chair, Claire Simard, and Music Teachers Paul Malyszka and Michelle Altman.
