Malloy Issues Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Hear Trump Travel Ban

Gov. Malloy & Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on Supreme Court Decision to Hear Trump Administration Travel Ban

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding the United States Supreme Court decision to hear arguments in Trump v. International Refugee Assistance Project:

Governor Malloy said, “By hearing this case, the United States Supreme Court has an opportunity to finally put to an end this un-American travel ban. Despite claims to the contrary from the administration - the reality is that refugees are already subjected to the highest level of security screening, undergoing multiple background checks before they ever enter our country. It is the moral imperative of our nation to provide a place of refuge for those seeking safety from war and oppression - an obligation we must continue to meet.”

Lt. Governor Wyman said, “Just as we wouldn’t throw open our national borders, a blanket denial of entry to the U.S. is not a rational approach, it’s an unsophisticated one. Moreover, this travel ban does not reflect our evolution as a nation. We have been that country that denied entry to fellow human beings enduring unimaginable suffering, violence, and genocide. Out of those lessons, we said ‘never again.’ Our national priority is to keep our citizens safe, which is why our security and law enforcement agencies already employ extensive and exhaustive investigation measures for refugees, immigrants, and others. Those fleeing persecution and death should not, again, be met by ‘fear the foreigner’ policies at our borders.”
