Newtown Police Find Pipe Bombs
Newtown police report that on Friday evening, March 24 at approximately 7:30 PM they were called to the area of 301 South Main Street for a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle. "Upon arriving Officer Pirhala was shown two suspicious devices that appeared to be pipe bombs. The immediate area was cleared and assistance from the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad was requested," Police say.
According to Police, members of the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad arrived, and safely removed the devices. After rendering the devices safe a brief on site examination showed that the devices were filled with an energetic substance. The substance will be sent for further analysis in a forensic laboratory. This case is being investigated jointly by the Newtown Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
