Red Cross helps 15 families after fires in New Britain, Windsor, Bridgeport, Willington, and Naugautuck

The American Red Cross is helping 15 families after five separate fires in New Britain, Windsor, Bridgeport, Willington, and Naugautuck.

The Red Cross is helping:

  • Five families – thirteen adults – thirteen children after a fire yesterday on Connerton Street, New Britain
  • One family – three adults – one child after a fire Monday on Windbrook Drive, Windsor
  • One family – two adults – two children after a fire yesterday on Pembroke Street, Bridgeport
  • Seven families – twelve adults after a fire yesterday on Cisar Road, Willington
  • One famiy – two adults – one child after a fire on Prospect Street, Naugautuck

In each instance, the Red Cross provided assistance to meet the families’ immediate needs. Responders included: Bill Schwarz, Joan Schwarz, Tom Shugrue, Carla Thornton, Roy Maynard, Jon Basso, Ginger Flynn, Dennis Guay, Paul Pagenkopp, Larry Berman, Monica Prangley, Paula Marker, Mike Vincelli, James Hendricks, Michelle Hendricks, Lynda Joly, Sue Bolen, John Lennon, and Amy Thomas.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire. In addition, a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more was provided. 

Red Cross caseworkers will follow up with those affected in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan. The Red Cross is able to provide assistance through the generosity of our donors and the commitment of our volunteers.
