Annual McCann Concert Features the Litchfield Hills Brass Ensemble

The Minor Memorial Library celebrates its twenty-third McCann Concert on Sunday, August 28 at 3:00 PM with a free concert of diverse and lively music performed by the Litchfield Hills Brass Ensemble.

Formed by Washington, CT resident Arthur Peterson on trumpet, the Litchfield Hills Brass Ensemble is made up of experienced classical musicians with wide-ranging Orchestral and ensemble experience. Other members include David Burns, on trombone; Kirk Dulaney, on trumpet; Kevin Klepacki, tuba; and Tom Schreiner on French horn.

Their repertoire runs the gamut from Baroque to Classical, Jazz to Pop, and Broadway to contemporary material. Audiences are thrilled by their interpretive skills and the ability to make five instruments sound like a symphonic ensemble; evoking the color and musical excitement required by the diversity of their material.

The McCann Concert series is given in memory of Frasier McCann, a Roxbury resident who was a generous benefactor of the library and an avid music lover. A longtime resident of Roxbury, Mr. McCann owned the 857-acre Golden Harvest Farm located on land straddling Botsford Hill, Judge, and Minor Bridge Roads. Mr. McCann assembled the farm through the purchase of five smaller farms in the 1930s. In its heyday, Golden Harvest Farm had the best Guernsey herd in the United States, and was one of the last dairy farms in Roxbury and Bridgewater.

David Burns played in the jazz and concert band in college. He left music for 25 years to pursue a career in Mathematics. He returned to playing the trombone in 2010, playing with the Litchfield Hills Brass and the Danbury Trombone Outfit. He studies with Jackie Harris-Stone.

Kirk Dulaney was a music major in college and studied with members of the Boston Symphony and NY Philharmonic. Kirk was a member of a brass quintet who toured Europe during summer recesses, playing in town squares in England, France, Italy and Germany. He also played in the Tanglewood Orchestra for a number of years. Kirk lives in Roxbury, CT.

Kevin Klepacki was a music and education major at CCSU, where he studied with members of the New Britain Symphony and the Brass Ring Quintet. In 2006 he was accepted into the US Air Force Band, playing with the quintet, concert band, jazz combo and rock band. He is currently instrumental music director in Region 15. Kevin lives in Cheshire, CT.

Art Peterson was a music major at DePaul University in Chicago. He studied with members of the Chicago Symphony and played in the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the CSO training ensemble. He is currently a member of the Danbury Community Orchestra and Danbury Symphony Orchestra, and performs Baroque repertoire with vocal artists and accompaniment. Art resides in Washington, CT.
