Ancell dean joins Junior Achievement Board

Dr. David Martin, dean of the Ancell School of Business at Western Connecticut State University, has joined the board of directors of the regional branch of Junior Achievement.

Martin previously sat on the board of Junior Achievement in Rochester, New York, and said he is eager to serve again with the organization.

“Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut is a great organization dedicated to improving the lives of students in our region by engaging them in the principles of our free enterprise system,” Martin said. “Having been in a classroom for “JA in a Day” and observing the “Business Challenge,” I know that the organization helps to bring the global economy to students in K-through-12 with a special emphasis in the high schools. I also know that the members of the board are dedicated individuals who volunteer their time, treasure and talent to ensure that students can see a pathway to success in their life.”

Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut, which serves Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, and several other municipalities, reached more than 22,600 students in over 1,000 classrooms during the 2013-14 school year. Nationally, 4.5 million students participated in Junior Achievement programs.

Established in 1919, Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to preparing and inspiring young people to succeed in the global economy. JA programs are delivered by corporate and community volunteers who give students from kindergarten through high school knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship.
