FORMER NEWTOWN POLICE OFFICERS STINSON AND COSTELLO AGREE TO A PLEA DEAL

After changing their pleas from “not guilty” to “guilty” on charges of first degree larceny, former Newtown Police officers Dominic Costello and Andrew Stinson have agreed to a plea agreement that will give both officers  reduced sentences of six months in jail and three years’ probation.

In addition, both officers will have to make restitution for the monies they removed from the Police Union investment and checking accounts.  Costello, formerly a Sergeant with the Newtown PD is charged with removing a total of $$95,392 and Newtown’s former K-9 Officer Stinson, $95,667.

The officers were originally charged and arrested for these crimes in March, 2011 after a lengthy investigation.
