"The Evolution of the Detective in Literature" talk with Dr. Mark Schenker is set for Sunday, Sept. 21 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main St., Newtown.

The detection of crime has been a subject in literature since the time of the Bible and Oedipus Rex. Dr. Schenker of Yale College will lecture on its evolution in the literature of the English-speaking world. Along the way, he'll consider influences as varied as religious myth, the Western, film noir and contemporary television.
